PART 1
First hour: Epidemiology of chronic low back pain .The neurology of pain sensation. Contrasting the Cartesian, neuro-matrix and neuroplasticity models of pain sensation and relating the impact the chiropractic adjustment to each
Second hour: Special concerns and yellow flags in treating the chronic pain patient. Introduction to the Yellow Flag Risk Assessment and the significance of using a pain Journal.

PART 2
First Hour: Assessment techniques to differentially diagnose stability issues from mobility issues affecting the lumbopelvic hip complex. Endurance testing for the lumbopelvic hip complex will also be reviewed.
Second Hour: Flexibility techniques for the low back including in office and home exercises with dosing variables detailed.

PART 3
First Hour: Stability exercises for the lumbopelvic hip complex with progressions from beginner to advanced. Discussion of how and when to safely progress the patient will be addressed.
Second Hour: Additional stabilization exercises with their respective progressions found in the current peer reviewed literature. Lifestyle and nutrition interventions for in chronic back pain management.

RELEVANT REHAB: CHRONIC LOW BACK PAIN PART 1 – Credit Hours: 2Clinical

Chronic low back pain is a leading cause of disability worldwide. The principles for the management of this patient demographic will be reviewed in this course leading to immediate application of the information once the clinician returns to the office. Current research trends in lifestyle, nutrition, flexibility and stability exercises will be taught with a combination of didactic and hands on principles.
