Description

This course will review the basic principles of the etiology of low back pain and will describe ways to identify what is causing the pain using the characteristics of the different spinal pain syndromes. HOUR 1 The neurology of pain from the cause to the spinal cord and up to the brain. The perception of pain and the use of mechanoreceptor stimulation to modulate the pain. Peripheral and central sensitization The neurophysiological explanations of pain control HOUR 2 Distinguishing between the different types of pain: Nociceptive and Neuropathic. Experimental models proving scleratogenous referred pain The referred pain patterns of myofascial pain. Differentiating between radiculopathy, myelopathy and peripheral nerve entrapment The five causes of low back pain: Herniated disc, facet arthropathy, spinal stenosis, myogenic, and annular tears
